Meet, Dayton!

The Arc of Frederick County would like to introduce you to: Dayton Caddy - another new Support Coordinator.  The is so excited to be growing and exploring new avenues.  Dayton will be focused on the job front and working with individuals to seek meaningful employment.  His day yesterday was an interesting one as you will see below:

Well today was a weird day!  Do to the fact we had Monday off for Memorial Day, I was thrown for a little loop to start off the work week.  On Monday’s we normally have our weekly Monday morning meeting at 9 AM.  I was in the meeting room 5 till 9 and the first one there.  I was proud of myself for being on time, prepared, and ready to go.  Although, I was overlooking the fact that it was Tuesday and a meeting was not going to occur.  Aaron, my Supervisor came in and congratulated me on being an overachiever but I was going to be waiting a while for the Monday morning meeting to occur when it was Tuesday.  That gave a few people here at The Arc a nice laugh.
After a different morning meeting I sent out my daily e-mails, checked my voicemails, and completed my normal daily desk work.  By this time it lunchtime had already snuck up on me!  One of the greatest things about my new job here at The Arc is the fact that I am so close to my home.  I have 16 week twins (Elisha and Sophia) at home that I try to spend my lunch with each day.  That is hard to beat in a job!  Having the convenience and ability to see your kids every day during lunch is priceless.
In the afternoon I drove to Gaithersburg and met with the Workforce Development Specialist at St. Luke’s House.  I wanted to chat with her about some things that seem to be working for her as she navigates in the business community in Montgomery County as I do here in Frederick County.  I wanted to hear what was working for her and what wasn’t.  The meeting seemed to be very productive and we plan to stay in close contact to benefit each other and the organizations we work for.
Stay tuned for more on Dayton!

Thank you, Kirk!

Kirk had a busy week last week and wanted to share with you another day as a Support Coordinator:

Today was a pretty busy day. I helped a gentleman I serve get to and from work and listened to some concerns he had about individuals who were giving him some trouble on the bus. Later I went to an Individual Plan meeting. Then I met a woman that I support and helped her buy some furniture.  Overall, it has been a very busy and very rewarding week. Thanks for letting me share my experiences with you!

The Arc extends a big thank you to Kirk for allowing us to share a bit about his work week as a new Support Coordinator.  Stay tuned to meet, Dayton Caddy, another new Support Coordinator.

Still Learning the Ropes!

Kirk was pretty busy yesterday, as you can read below:

This morning I had the chance to organize some files and finish up a few small projects that had been cluttering my desk. Around 10 this morning we had a lesson on how to cover the front desk during times we are called upon to step in. I even transferred two calls! J Later in the day, a co-worker and I visited an individual that we serve to discuss some possible job opportunities and strategies. I ended my day working with my supervisor to problem solve a couple of unexpected situations that came up.

Meet, Kirk!

Kirk McNemar, a new Support Coordinator at The Arc wants to share what his first couple of days have been like as a new employee:

Today, after the morning staff meeting, I sat down with one of our Assistant Directors and strategized the best way for us to build a great team around someone that we support. Later in the day I met with a gentleman that I support and went over some paperwork with him concerning the Food Supplemental Program. Then I ended the day by meeting with my supervisor to discuss what I’ve been working on and help me problem solve.

On Tuesday, I met with a co-worker to draft an Individual Plan for the next year of service that we provide. I had the opportunity to shadow a Support Coordinator as they had an actual Individual Planning meeting with an individual we support and his team.

Kirk will share more later this week!

Another Day!

Phew! What a day! Got here early this morning to get some paperwork done before our staff meeting.  The staff meeting was very informative. It was all about how to be a successful job developer and to make connections for the people we serve.  After the meeting I took a break to eat some lunch with some other coworkers.  Then it was back to work! I started writing my first Individual Plan, however, had to stop to go to a meeting. I held a team meeting with a woman I support and her support staff to work on some problem solving and scheduling.  Then back to the office to continue working on the Individual Plan.

Meet, Ashley!

Ashley Egerdahl is one of the newest members of The Arc family.  We are interested in sharing with you how Ashley started her work week off this week as a new Support Coordinator:

The day started off with a lot of coffee and a Monday morning meeting at 9am to discuss hot topics for the week.  A 2 hour Individual Plan meeting followed afterwards where I met a wonderful family of a young man with Cerebal Palsy.  Back at the office I met with my supervisor to discuss some upcoming projects.  The day ended with setting up care for some individuals, answering e-mails and returning phone calls.

See what will come later this week as a day in the life of a new Support Coordinator at The Arc.
